Manu8217;s uncle, an unobtrusive guy

CHANDIGARH, MAY 16: Shyam Sunder Sharma, the uncle of Manu Sharma is known to be a reserved and unobtrusive man. Arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly destroying evidence, harbouring an offender, besides criminal conspiracy in the case, he was later released on bail by a Delhi court. He possesses a gun license issued at Chandigarh.

As a politician, his brother, former Congress Union minister Vinod Sharma sought the spotlight, but Shyam Sunder has avoided publicity and is little known outside his immediate circle comprising family, friends and business associates. Sources close to the Sharma family characterise Shyam Sunder as quot;a loner who keeps to himself and dislikes fanfare. He never involved himself in his brother8217;s poll rallies and functions.quot;

His friends say that Shyam Sunder is not highly educated, but has a head for business. He is a partner in the family-owned Picadilly Group of Hotels and Industries, and looks after the sugar mills and the hotel at Manali. He and his wife, Jayshri daughterof former President Shankar Dayal Sharma, have two children. Shyam Sunder and Vinod are the sons of the late Kedar Nath Sharma, a Congress leader who was killed in a road accident in the early 1980s. The Sharma family hails from Doraha in Punjab.
