
HOSHIARPUR, March 23: The district police rescued a local resident from the clutches of a local trader and his henchmen in Chandigarh and registered a case of kidnapping and illegal confinement.
As per the First Information Report lodged in Sadar police station, Dinesh Chander Sood, resident of Bahadurpur, had sold some land to Satish Billa, a local resident. On March 14, Dinesh received a phone call from Satish Billa that he could come and collect the money. Billa sent a Maruti van and two persons to fetch Dinesh. Dinesh was taken to McLeodganj Dharamsala, where he stayed for two days. Then he was shifted to Chandigarh and kept in a hotel for some time. Here he was taken to an advocate on the pretext that he Dinesh needed protection from his family. Suspecting foul play, the advocate informed the Hoshiarpur police.
In the meantime, the police received a complaint from Dinesh8217;s family and initiated search operation. Receiving the call from the advocate, a police party was dispatched to Chandigarh and Dinesh recued.
Dinesh has alleged that he was kept under intoxication and made to sign some blank papers at Chandigarh.
A case has been registered under section 342/365/368/149 of IPC, though no arrests have been made so far. SSP R. P. Mittal said that a police party raided the residence of Satish Billa, but he cound not be found.
Booked for making up a false story:Hoping to win some bravery award, a tempo driver attached to Guru Harkrishan Public School told the Model Town police a concocted story.
He told the police that three unidentified persons had attempted to kidnap a school student 8211; Gurpartap Singh, son of a member of the school managing committee.
The tempo driver told the police that he was threatened with dire consequences by the trio when he foiled their kidnapping bid.
Following the cited incident, the police provided plain-clothes security personnel to the child. However, the child felt harassed by the police protection. On March 19 he the child told the police that the tempo driver had made up the story thinking he would be suitably awarded by the parents of the child.
A case has been registered against the tempo driver.
