The absence of an 8220;eligible8221; man to head the Directorate General of Civil Aviation DGCA seems to have left the Central Government in a bind. While the Ministry of Civil Aviation has been on the lookout for an official to fill current Director Kanu Gohain8217;s shoes for some time, even advertising the vacancy, nothing came up. The ministry had to give Gohain another extension up to June 30, 2008, even though he was due for retirement at 2007 end. The ministry had put out ads in July last year and then in December 2007. The last date of submission of applications has been extended up to March 2008, but no suitable candidates are lined up. The eligibility criteria are tough: an IAS or officers from the Indian Air Force of the rank of Air Marshal having a minimum 12 years of experience in aviation, flying, aircraft engineering or air worthiness, out of which, a minimum of five years of experience should be in administration and finance disciplines.
