COPENHAGEN, MAY 18: Malaysian Yong Hock Kin, who started the season with a Commonwealth silver medal, began his quest for more medal success when the World Individual Championships got into top gear today. After a week of Sudirman Cup mixed team matches and two days of qualifying rounds, the 11th seeded Malaysian was one of the first men's singles winners when the tournament proper began. He beat Wei Ng of Hong Kong 15-4 15-3 to cruise into the second round where he was joined by his likely third-round opponent, top seed and world number one Peter Gade Christensen. The Dane put his Sudirman Cup final disappointment, when he lost to Sun Jun of China, behind him with a 15-3 15-7 win over South Korean Ahn Jee-Chang.``I was pleased to win this first match because he wasn't such a bad player,'' Gade said of Ahn.And of his second-round clash with unseeded 1995 world champion Heryanto Arbi of Indonesia, who beat Spain's Sergio Lopis 15-5 15-6, Gade added: ``Arbi is still a very strong player. I shall have to be cautious.''
