MUMBAI, JANUARY 9: Local team Mahindras should be starting their Coca Cola National League football tie against State Bank of Travancore (SBT) with a lot of confidence after winning their last two games. They enjoy the head-to-head advantage, having beaten SBT four times.
However, the hosts have a minor problem, that of a back up for Jordanian Khatip Khalim. In the last match, against JCT, Mohammad Najab could not fit into the role and was benched after half time. Now they have to pick their choice between Nitin Pradhan and Abbas Ali.
SBT will be without their right wing back Shiva Kumar who has drawn two cards.
Injury worries for EB: After 0-1 defeat on Monday against Mohun Bagan, East Bengal are likely to have an easy go against low lying Goa’s Dempo Sports Club in Calcutta on Monday.
East Bengal have earned seven points out of five matches two wins, two losses and a draw while the visitors have two points in five outings. Star players Bijen Singh, Raman Vijayan, Falguni Dutta and TusharRakshit were in the injury list. But the East Bengal coach was hoping a return of Ghanian recruit Suley Musha.
Draw jinx: Former champions Jagatjit Cotton Textile Mills, Phagwara and FC Kochin will seek to break the jinx of drawn encounters between them at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on Monday. Both teams have played four times against each other in the NFL, all resulting in draws.
They were locked one-all in the Goa-leg of the Super Six last year, while the Calcutta phase saw them playing out a goalless draw. During their inaugural campaign in the second edition of the NFL, FC Kochin earned one-all verdicts against the then holders JCT both home and away.
