MUMBAI, SEPT 6: Out of over 2.61 crore voters in Maharashtra, 66.56 per cent voters exercised franchise in the first phase of polling for 24 Lok Sabha and 144 Assembly constituencies held yesterday. As the final figures reached the State Election Commission from various districts today, it has become clear that voter turnout was less than 1995 Assembly elections but more than the 1996 and 1998 elections.

Addressing a press conference at Mantralaya this evening, Maharashtra chief electoral officer Dr D K Sankaran, said the maximum percentage of voting was witnessed in Pandharpur constituency 74.56 and the lowest was at Nagpur 54.14.

Other constituencies and percentage of voting is as follows: Dhule 56.63, Nandurbar 65.66, Erandol 62.39, Jalgaon 67.20, Buldhana 71.22, Akola 60.73, Washim 67.20, Amravati 62.25, Ramtek 65.47, Bhandara 71.40, Chimur 61, Chandrapur 67, Wardha 63, Yavatmal 64.08, Hingoli 70.46, Nanded 65.53, Parbhani 67.31, Beed 72.27, Latur 72.14, Osmanabad 70.75, Solapur 61.30 and Sangli 71.26.
