CHENNAI, Nov 5: The Southern Railways is to take up the Rs 240 croe gauge conversion work on the 162 km Madurai-Rameshwaram section by January 1999. The final location work is almost finised and the tenders will be called for in December, according to Southern Railway General Manager, N Krithivasan. Also, a 52 km rail link between Dharmavaram to Pennukoda in AP via Puttaparthi has been cleared by the Railway Board and is likely to be completed in three years.
