BARIPADA, FEB 10: With little cooperation coming from the nun who was allegedly raped in a moving car on Saturday last, the police team investigating the case is facing immense difficulties in tracing the two accused persons and the car they used in the crime.

The police said that after interrogation of nearly 200 persons including rickshaw pullers and taxi drivers and verification of several taxis, the investigating team is still clueless about the culprits.

The failure of the nun to give any description of the two accused persons who were allegedly disguised as women while offering the former a lift to her convent and to provide the registration number of the Ambassador car used in the crime had made the task tough for the police.

The nun, now staying in Catholic Church, Balasore under the custody of the Bishop, has allegedly destroyed a vital piece of evidence by burning her undergarment, which could have thrown more light on the rape.

It is also alleged by the police that initially the nun hadshown reluctance to be medically examined. However, she was persuaded to go for the test without which it would be impossible for them to establish the truth.

It may be mentioned here that the complainant has the choice whether to go for medical examination or not.

While there are many loose ends in the case, the priest-in-charge of the Catholic Church at Krishnachandrapur Father Roy Kuchpurikal has his own doubts about the complaint lodged by the nun.

Talking to a group of visiting newsmen, Father Roy said that seeing the FIR objectively 8220;I have my own doubts8221;. It was not wise on the part of the nun to travel with strangers without ascertaining their identities, he said adding that she should have verified the credentials of the persons before accepting the lift.

Describing the nun as bold and smart8217;, Roy said she had her education at Chennai and Calcutta. She should not have committed such a mistake, he maintained.

Meanwhile, secretary of diocese, Father Isaac, told newsmen at Balasore onMonday that a section of the press was trying to mislead the public by distorting and diluting8217; the incident. Asserting that the FIR filed by the nun is the only truth, he said the truth could not be suppressed for long.
