
Close on the heels of a spate of attacks by leopards on humans in and around the metropolis in June, the wild cat struck again today injuring one person in Malad near Sanjay Gandhi National Park, taking the total number of persons attacked to 12.
Sudhir Choudhary, a resident of Azad Nagar, was injured when the leopard attacked him near Pimpripada locality. The leopard escaped after he raised an alarm, police said adding that he had been admitted to Bhagwati hospital.
Meanwhile, the state government today announced a slew of measures in view of the attacks, namely, a rescue park for the captured wild cats and vasectomies to check their population.
The construction of a protective wall around the periphery of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, solar fencing and a research on the behavioural aspects of the beast, are the other measures to be carried out, Forest Minister Surupsingh Naik said at a press conference.
