The DMK on Wednesday expressed hope that the Left parties would not do anything ‘harmful’ to the UPA government.
“I don’t think they will do anything harmful to this government… I don’t think they will leave room for the communal forces. I hope for a solution. They are our friends,” DMK leader and Shipping and Surface Transport Minister T R Baalu told reporters in New Delhi.
His comment was sought on the possibility of the Left parties withdrawing support to the government if it went ahead with the Indo-US nuclear deal.
“My leader and Chief Minister (M Karunanidhi) has already spoken to my comrades, my friends Prakash Karat and D Raja,” he said referring to their recent meeting in Chennai.
Baalu recently met Congress President Sonia Gandhi as part of her exercise to consult UPA constituents over the stand-off with the Left on the nuclear issue.
