HYDERABAD, FEB 21: Bharatiya Janata Party BJP general secretary M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday came down heavily on Left parties for wooing the Congress to topple the BJP government at the Centre.

Addressing a press conference here, Naidu said that quot;casteist, corrupt, criminal and communal forcesquot; had convened the peoples8217; convention at Delhi yesterday to cover up their unholy alliance with the Congress. Having failed to fight the BJP ideologically and politically, the Left parties, particularly the Communist Party of India Marxist in association with the Rashtriya Janata Dal RJD, was prevailing upon the Congress to take up the country8217;s reins.

Referring to Prime Minister Vajpayee8217;s visit to Pakistan, he said the entire nation was happy about the goodwill gesture and path-breaking initiative taken by him for ensuring durable peace in the sub-continent.

quot;India always wanted peaceful co-existence, forget the past and move forward. Vajpayee will go down in history as a leader who has initiated normalrelations between India and Pakistan in all spheres, quot; he added. The PM had proved his capacity and capability by resolving the two-decade-old Cauvery issue, bringing the office of the Prime Minister under jurisdiction of Lok Pal, allocating 60 per cent of the Budget for removing imbalances in rural areas and taking initiative to promote cordial relations with neighbouring Pakistan. Regarding AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha8217;s contention that her party would oppose any change in the leadership of Vajpayee, he said that there was no question of change as the party had fought the LS polls by projecting Vajpayee as its prime ministerial candidate.

On the question of Haryana Lok Dal withdrawing support, he hoped that Om Prakash Chautala would not do anything against the BJP, in order to benefit the Congress.
