Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee today said her party had decided to give up all ministerial posts at the centre to protest the petrol price hike, but was postponing taking the step until after Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs return to India.
The Trinamool was not trying to blackmail the UPA or bargain, she said after a meeting of the parliamentary party here but the hike was intolerable, and her colleagues would make the sacrifice for the people.
We have tolerated for long. Now our patience is running out. We are in government and we have responsibilities. In 12 months, this is the eleventh increase in petroleum prices. This is intolerable. We cannot remain silent. My MPs including my central ministers today decided unanimously that they want to quit8230; But I have amended their decision a little. I have told them to wait till PM returns to the country, Banerjee said.
I feel that as an ally,it is our responsibility to see the PM before taking a decision8230; If we pull out now,the UPA government will fall. This will not be very courteous. So we have decided to wait till the PM comes back and on November 9 or 10,my MPs will try to meet with him.
