Cops rescue 21-yr-old 8216;missing Gauri Bhonsle8217;,two arrested

Police said NRI victim unable to recapitulate events after taxi driver 'abducted' her.

The NRI woman from London,Gauri Bhonsle 21 who reportedly went missing on October 15 on her way to Old Delhi Railway station to board a train to Malda,West Bengal,was rescued by the Saharanpur police from Talhari Biurg village on Tuesday. Police said she was rescued from a house,based on a tip-off. We raided the house and rescued her, Saharanpur SSP Durga Charan Mishra said.

Raju and Palesh have been arrested in connection with the case. Additional SP Anil Kumar Mishra said they confessed to have bought the woman from Dehradun six days ago and said Raju has married her. Police said the victim was unable to recapitulate the events.

Days after Gauri reportedly went missing,social networking sites were flooded with demands to rescue her. Guari reportedly had come to India from London and stayed in Mumbai,Rajasthan and Delhi before going missing. Many missing posters had come up in Mumbai and parts of London.

Mishra said a case will be lodged against the two men for kidnapping and forcibly detaining the woman. She gave her name as Gauri Bhonsle and said her grandmother lived in Malda. But she didnt have any proof of identity. We are questioning her to find her address and other details, the SSP said.

Police have informed the British High Commission in Delhi about her rescue. Mishra said the girl told police that she came to India on October 10 as she was annoyed with her parents in London. She first went Mumbai,then Ganganagar in Rajasthan,and then to Delhi. She decided to visit her grandmother in Malda and,on October 15,hired a taxi to go to the Old Delhi Railway station, he said.

Gauri told police that on the way,the taxi driver told her that the vehicle had developed a snag. While it was being repaired,he offered to take her to his house for food. After eating the food,Gauri claimed that she fell unconscious.

The Delhi Police said their UP counterparts had informed them about the womans rescue on Tuesday evening. They said no missing complaint has been lodged in Delhi by any of her family members.

DCP Crime and Railways S P S Tyagi said: We have not spoken to the woman. The UP Police has said the womans statement is not yet clear. She does not remember the place from where she was kidnapped. She does not even remember which train she had to catch on the day she was reported to have gone missing. If need be,we will take the courts permission and speak to the woman.
