ST. JOHN’S, June 10: Opener Russell Arnold hit 104 not out and shared an unbroken second wicket partnership of 185 with Marvan Atapattu as the touring Sri Lanka team took control on the second day of their three-day match against the Leeward Islands.

The Sri Lankans bowled out the Leewards for 148, 45 minutes after lunch to take a first innings lead of 44 yesterday. Arnold and Atapattu led them to 213 for one wicket in their second innings, ahead by 257 with one day remaining.

Arnold, a slim, left-hander, hit 10 fours in his attacking innings that lasted three hours 20 minutes. Nearing Sri Lanka’s first hundred of the tour, he gave unaccepted chances to the slips when he was on 89 and 98.The right-handed Atapattu joined him after first-innings top-scorer Roshan Mahamana was leg before wicket to fast bowler Mickey Mills for 13 and batted without blemish to be not out 90 at the close.
