AHMEDABAD, May 26: There were two major upsets, one each in the boys and girls section, in the under-12 section on the third day of the 11th Centurion Bank National Chess Championships for under-12 and under-14 now underway at the Indian Institute of Management campus here today.In the boys under-12 third round, unseeded S Raghuraman of Tamil Nadu shocked fifth seeded Kumardeep Chakraborty of West Bengal in just 53 moves. Both began cautiously, but Raghuraman playing with white pieces blundered on 24th move, he than saved the situation in the middle game. Kumardeep made a mistake on 53rd move on Knight h4 and paid the penalty. He had to signal his defeat.In the girls section B Latha of Tamil Nadu opened with Sicilian Defence Dragon Variation and than castled her fifth-seeded rival P Priya also from Tamil Nadu to post the second upset of the day. In both the cases it was brilliant tactical moves by the unseeded players that cost the ranked players their match.Earlier in the boys under 12 third round,top-seeded P Harikrishna of Andhra Pradesh defeated S Dutta of West Bengal.
