Guajrat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today charged Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna of not transferring the Rs 42 crore money collected for the aid of earthquake victims in Gujarat.

Addressing a rally at Maddur, Krishna’s home town, Modi accused Krishna of reaping interest from the money, which was contributed by people like drivers, conductors and common people.

‘‘Krishna said he would not give the money as long as Modi is CM. But I took over as Chief Minister nine months after the quake hit Gujarat. What was he doing during those nine months?’’ Modi charged.

Modi said that though Krishna talks of IT, it is Gujarat which is number one in connectivity. He said: ‘‘Gujarat has received the ‘‘Green Award’’ for eco-friendly rehabilitation of earthquake hit areas, while the green Karnataka, has turned into a desert under the Krishna administration.’’

Blasting Krishna’s statement that he would not allow Karnataka to become another Gujarat, Modi said Krishna did not have the calibre to make Karnataka a Gujarat. ‘‘To make Karnataka a Gujarat, he has to solve the Cauvery issue and give water to Mandya farmers, which he cannot do. I have completed the Narmada valley project to irrigate Gujarat,’’ he said.

Continuing his Sonia bashing, Modi called upon the people to ask the Congressmen about the antecedents of Sonia Gandhi.

‘‘When we rent out the house, we ask for the tenant’s details. But, the Congressmen are planning to hand over the country to a person whose antecedents are not known,’’ he said. Reiterating his challenge to Gandhi to sing Vande Maatram, Modi dared, ‘‘the woman who dreams of becoming the PM of the country should accept the challenge.’’

Former CM S. Bangarappa too raised the foreign origin of Sonia Gandhi and said that she can be the party president, but cannot be accepted as the Prime Minister of the country.

State BJP President Ananth Kumar hit out at Krishna for his alleged failure to provide Cauvery water to farmers and releasing it to Tamil Nadu.
