Thousands of people bid a tearful farewell to former Kerala CM and CPI(M) leader E.K. Nayanar in Kozhikode today.

By the time the cortege reached the Town Hall by 9.50 am, the city had taken on a red hue with a sea of people thronging the area.

Inside the hall were a range of dignitaries. Kozhikode’s famous daughter Olympian P.T. Usha and her husband Srinivasan were the first to wait in line to pay respects to the ‘adopted son’ of Kozhikode. Kunhirama Poduval, Nayanar’s long-time friend and fellow traveller during the days when he was the party secretary in Kozhikode, stood silently by his friend.
