Kidney racket: cops refused bail

A city court on Thursday refused bail to two suspended Delhi Police constables, who along with five others, are accused of extorting over Rs 19 lakh from a close aide of alleged kidney kingpin Dr Amit Kumar.

A city court on Thursday refused bail to two suspended Delhi Police constables, who along with five others, are accused of extorting over Rs 19 lakh from a close aide of alleged kidney kingpin Dr Amit Kumar. Noting that the involvement of Constables Ravinder Kumar and Rakesh Kumar in the alleged crime was 8220;apparent8221;, Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal dismissed their plea. The policemen were charged with taking the bribe from Dr Upendra, an associate of Dr Amit and co-accused in the Gurgaon kidney racket, for letting him and his driver off after they were picked up in January.
