
The rural industries in the state are in for a major revamp.
The Khadi and the Village Industries Commission KVIC and the department of industries will give subsidies worth Rs 117.69 crores for implementing 9,807 village-based projects in the state under the Prime Minister8217;s Employment Generation Programme PMEGP.
With barely four months left in the ongoing fiscal, the KVIC asked all the state and district level officials and the district industrial units to sanction projects at the earliest and reach their target by March.
The KVIC held a meeting with the officials in Lucknow on Friday.
Chief Executive Officer of KVIC Jaishankar Mishra said UP will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the PMEGP.
8220;We will provide employment to 1 lakh people associated with these projects. With our partners like the Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board UPKVIB and the industries department, we will try to reach out to more and more villagers in the state. We have asked all the district units to invite people to be a part of the scheme,8221; he added.
Under the schemeThirty five per cent subsidy will be given to the SC/STs, minorities and women, said Mishra.
He further added: 8220;The Asian Development Bank ADB is providing us 150 million dollars, of which Rs 1.75 crores are earmarked for the Khadi
Reform Development Package, where old looms will be replaced with new ones and khadi showrooms will be revamped.8221;
8220;We have identified the KVIC showroom in Hazratganj and are looking for a place in Lucknow to create a Khadi and Village Industries Mall similar to the one in New Delhi at Regal Building,8221; Mishra added.
