MUMBAI, JANUARY 20: A heroic last-wicket stand between Uday Karkera (75 not out: 106b, 120m, 8×4, 2×6) and Imran Baig (29: 68b, 4×4) resurrected Rizvi College’s hopes in the Junior Inter-Collegiate summit clash. The duo raised 120 runs to turn the tables on RA Podar on the penultimate day of the four-day encounter at at the Elf Vengsarkar on Thursday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 229 for six, in reply to RA Podar’s 328, Rizvi’s fate appeared sealed when they lost three wickets for the addition of 21 runs. However, Karkera and Baig put their heads together and thwarted the opposition in a defiant display to clinch the crucial lead, which was a distant 88 runs away when they began their association.

All is not lost for Podar though. They had made 132 for 4 in the second essay when stumps were drawn for the day. Some quick runs early on Friday could pave way for an interesting finish to the finale.

Brief Scores: RA Podar 328 & 132-4 in 45 overs (Rubesh Kumar 47; Majid Ansari 2-21) vs Rizvi College 360 in 114.2 overs (Rohit Bhalla 49, Majid Ansari 67, Uday Karkera 75 not out, Imran Baig 29; Burli Prahlad 7-120).
