Motorcyclists to drive all the way from Surat to Kargil
Three motorcyclists from Surat are leaving for Kargil on a Vijay Yatra’ on Thursday. They will cover 6000 kilometres in 26 days before reaching Kargil on August 10. The motorcyclists: Himaneel Veen, Mukesh Umrawala and Narendra Nayak — all employees of The Krishak Bharati Co-operative Limited (KRIBHCO) — will carry goodwill messages of Surtis to those fighting in Kashmir. A function has been organised at the Kribhco Township from where the three wil start off. They will then halt at Gandhi’s statue at Chowk, where the NSS, students and other institutions will felicitate them. A function has also been arranged at Sardar Chowk, Varachha Road, where city police commissioner Kuldip Sharma, Mayor Bhikhabhai Boghra, Collector Sangeeta Singh and others will met them. A function has also been organised at Varachha where women from the city will present them raakhis’ for the soldiers at the battlefront.

GEB contribution for soldiers
Vadodara: Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) chairman Nalin Bhatt on Tuesday presented a cheque for Rs 2.07 lakh to Brigader Arjan Datta of the EME. The amount is to be used for the welfare of the families of soldiers who have laid down their lives fighting the enemy in Kargil. The amount includes contributions from women employees, GEB School students, and Bhatt himself. Besides this, employees are contributing a day’s salary for the Kargil cause. Women employees tied rakhees on the wrists of EME jawans.

Airforce officer exhorts children
“The Risk to life on front for anyone is as much as is in the home or on the roads. Then why not to die for a cause and with a pride,” was the bottomline of a lecture delivered by Wing Commander (retd) Chandrashekhar Pantvaidya of Indian Air Force at a special function organised by information department here at Vidya Vihar School on Tuesday. The former fighter pilot narrated several incidents of the 1965 war and the bravery of the Indian forces.

Creating awareness about Kargil
To create national awareness in view of the intrusion in Kargil sector, representatives of Vadodara’s Shaikshanik Sangh Sankalan Samiti have decided to organise various programmes beginning July 17. As part of the campaign, the organisers will organise painting competitions, sing patriotic songs, stage plays, and hold blood donation camps.

WWF to undertake tour to Ladakh
The Gujarat chapter of World Wide Fund-India will undertake an educational tour to Ladakh in the first week of August. The tour is restricted to 10 persons only. They would be taking messages and greetings for soldiers fighting in the Kargil sector. Volunteers would accompany participants on motorcycles. Interested should contact WWF office at Indumati Mahal, near District Panchayat Office or on 436613 on or before July 20.

GEB staff to donate one-day salary
About 50,402 employees of the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) have decided to donate their day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the family members of jawans who have lost lives fighting in Kargil.
