While the UPA was congratulating itself on completing four years, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was more worried about the heavy downpour during the PM’s celebratory dinner. He sought out Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal and asked him about reports that the rain could adversely impact the monsoon—ominous news in an election year. Sibal tried to assuage Pawar’s concerns, flamboyantly explaining how this spell of rain had nothing to do with the onset of the monsoons. Not impressed by the jargon, Pawar tersely said, “I want a briefing from your officials on this tomorrow.”
