
MUMBAI, AUG 19: Rohan Juneja won the Rs 85,000 Otters Club All-India Open squash under-19 title beating Parth Doshi 6-9, 9-7, 9-3, 9-0 in the final today.
The third-seeded Doshi, who upset second seed Bikram Uberoi in the semi-final yesterday, lost concentration in the second game after pocketing the first. Juneja, who last played in the city in June 8217;98 and had beaten Doshi in the selection trials of the World Junior Championships, needed only that much space to claim the Rs 20,000 prize.
In the under-17 final, Junaid Nathani lead 7-0 in the second game after winning the first 9-0 against Siddharth Suchde. He missed a crosscourt flick, lost his rhythm and allowed Suchde to pull back to a 10-9 win.
Suchde, who had earlier won the under-15 final beating top seed and school-mate Mihir Sheth, lost the next two games 9-2, 9-1.
The under-19 girls8217; final, top seed Deepali Anvekar8217;s power reigned over second seed Joshna Chinappa8217;s court craft. Deepali won 9-4, 9-6, 7-9, 9-4, a result that did not leaveJoshna too disappointed.
8220;I never expected to take a game from her,8221; said the Chennai-based Joshna, referring to the third game which she won with delectable shots. She had Deepali scrambling for shots and once had the top seed spread-eagled with a deft placement.
Joshna, however, had it easy in the under-15 final, beating Supriya Balsekar 9-6, 9-3, 9-2.
Hong Kong Open winner Alisha Mashruwala lost the boys8217; under-11 final to Sandeep Jhangra 9-5, 9-4, 3-9, 9-3.
