
CHANDIGARH, July 2: Eight city youth accused of kidnapping Ranjit Bajaj, son of B.R. Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj, were yesterday produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Ist Class and remanded to judicial custody till July 15.
The accused Gurpinderjit Singh, Karan Sandhu, Karamjit Singh, Gurpal Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Mohit Sharma and Jaspreet Singh reportedly got involved in a minor scuffle with Ranjit and another person called Amit Sharma outside Hot Millions-2. According to police sources, they allegedly pushed Ranjit into a jeep and sped away.
Yesterday, the accused were produced in the court of UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class A.K. Bishnoi and were remanded to police custody for a day. The police had sought remand on grounds that time was needed to recover stolen articles including Rs 4,590, a gold chain, a wrist watch and two rings. Police sources today asked for judicial custody of the accused. It was further informed that no major recoveries had been made from the possession of the accused.
R.C. Godara to join as ADJ soon
An Additional District and Sessions Judge ADJ is likely to join here in the near future. Although two posts of additional district and sessions judges have been created in the subordinate courts, just one name has been cleared by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
According to sources, R.C. Godara, presently posted as Additional Sessions Judge, Faridkot, Haryana, is likely to join here very soon. It is further said that the taking of charge by R.C. Godara is being delayed on account of holidays in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
It may be mentioned here that with the purpose of distributing the increasing workload here in the city courts, posts of two additional district and sessions judges and five sub judges had been created. This has also been confirmed by the office of the District and Sessions Judge.
No names, however, have been cleared yet, except that of R.C. Godara as ADJ.
