CHANDIGARH, June 1: Judicial remand for Executive Engineer Naresh Kumar Gupta was today further extended till June 15 by UT Additional District and Sessions Judge S.S. Lamba in the engineering department kickback case.

A Haryana cadre officer, now posted with Haryana State Electricity Board at Panchkula, Gupta was arrested by UT Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act on May 12.

According to the prosecution, approximately Rs 57,550 were entered against Gupta’s name in the alleged middlemen’s diaries, which were recovered by the Income Tax authorities from their residences in November 1997.

Gupta, the prosecution had added, was getting kickbacks for issuing supply orders and was a member of the purchase committee set up by then UT chief engineer K.K. Jerath.
