VADODARA, June 4: Members of the city unit of Janata Dal have criticised the Union Budget saying that the budget was a reflection of party interests rather than the country8217;s interest. They alleged that the finance minister had failed to concentrate on any particular front.

President of the city unit Motilal Kanojia said that the Union budget had not fixed its priorities and hence first hiked the price of petrol and later rolled back succumbing to pressure.

He pointed out that thought the budget looked people-friendly and pro-reforms, a detailed study revealed that it did not cater to any particular class.

Former Deputy Mayor Pratap Ramchandani, on the other hand, has appreciated the finance minister8217;s initiative towards boosting the Small Scale Industries by raising the general import custom duty and reduction in various excise duties. 8220;Raising the excise exemption limit to Rs 50 lakh will provide a breather to SSIs,8221; Ramchandani observed, adding that the the minister8217;s announcement to reduce the existing archaic laws and bring amendments to make them consistent with modern financial and banking systems would benefit the SSI sector and make them globally competitive.
