Commerce Minister Arun Jaitley has become an icon of sorts in this part of the world what with his activism on rich vs poor and mobilising a developing countries’ brigade. In fact he has been the centre of attention for the foreign media who have been running around to get a sound byte or an interview with the articulate Indian minister. But the cake was taken when a foreign correspondent went up to Jaitley and instead of asking him a question told him that he had conquered the WTO, Jaitley blushed and found himself completely tongue-tied.

Slogan collection

Journalists covering the WTO sessions have decided to work on a compilation of one-liners against the rich, developed countries. Over the last few days, one has heard so many slogans here like ‘‘US-EU corporate greed, undermining the farmers needs,’’ or ‘‘Globalise hopes, not trade’’ and the like. Maybe they could help political parties who have run out of ideas to please the masses and new slogans could help them in the forthcoming elections.
