Jagjivan Ram remembered

In Chandigarh, party leaders Sham Lal Gupta, Gurbachan Singh, J. N. Shastri, P. C. Puri and Tarlok Singh paid tributes to the departed leader. A call was also made to confer the Bharat Ratna on him posthumously.

Another programme by the Chandigarh Block Congress was also organised to mark Samta Diwas, said Congress Block 17 president Sham Lal Kanoujia.

Meanwhile, a HPCC party release here said tributes were also paid to the departed leader at meetings organised by the District Congress Committees in the state at their respective headquarters.

Saigal8217;s birth anniversary celebrated
The Environment Society of India celebrated singer K. L. Saigal8217;s 95th birth anniversary at the Govt. Museum and Art Gallery, here yesterday.

A film quot;Kia Jadoo Hai,quot; on Saigal8217;s life was screened and musical tributes paid to him on the occasion. Also, the administration was urged to name the museum auditorium after him. New awards constituted in the memory of late Suwarcha Paul were given by her father Shanti Lal to R. K. Chopra, Radha Chopra, Rajinder Singh, Bhupinder Singh, V. D. Chauhan and S. S. Chauhan.
