JALANDHAR, NOV 17: Despite pressures from within and outside the party, the SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur yesterday rulled out any possibility of resigning from the president post. She said that the SGPC has a democratic set up and she would abide by the party decision.
It was an emotional Jagir Kaur that spoke up to the Indian Express at her Defence Colony residence here today first time after obtaining bail in the alleged murder case of her daughter Harpreet Kaur. Mera dil bahut dukhi hai jo lafja vich byan nahin ho sakda and maa de dukh bare kise ne nahin sochia were the kind of emotions that she expressed while talking to this correspondent. She said that she has all the proofs to defend herself but would disclose them only to the investigating authorities and the courts. The public can question me on any issue regarding the SGPC and the party but as a mother she is not answerable to them, she added.
Has not any daughter died in the past six months but why was it that only my daughter’s death was made an issue. She expressed these views while trying to say that such things do happen in the society but the respect of the women should not brought on the road. Claiming that media has played a partial role in the whole episode, she seemed emotional while voicing media ne maa de pakh noo ujagar nahin kita and media ne gunde noo hero bana dita.
Alleging that the CBI itself was not sure about the whole case and was contradicting their own statements, she said that the CBI is pressurising Nishan Singh who is in the custody to speak against her. She alleged that he had been tortured but that too did not proved fruitful for them and than they tried to lure him by offering him a senior post in the police.
Quoting examples from the history, the SGPC chief said that the Sikhs have always been the saviours of dignity of women and she as a women herself heading the SGPC can never do such a wrong.
