CHANDIGARH, June 7: Jagdev Mann of St Stephen8217;s School, Sector 45 and Saroj Chandel of the Reserve Bank of India clinched the men8217;s and women8217;s singles titles in the first Prize Money Ranking Carrom tournament which concluded at St Stephen8217;s School premises here today. Jagdev outplayed Tejinder Harry 25-7, 25-0 to become richer by Rs 2000 while Saroj got the better of Anjali Negi 16-25, 25-4, 25-12 to take home the women8217;s crown. She won Rs 500.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Jagdev Mann beat KS Patwal 0-25, 25-4, 25-9 and Tejinder Harry defeated Devinderjit Singh in a close contest 25-22, 25-12.
In the women8217;s section, in the first semis, Saroj Chandel down by a game 10-25 bounced back and went on to win the next two games 25-8, 25-8. In the second semifinal, Anjali Negi after initial hiccups beat Ami Wig 25-22, 25-0.
The following are the top eight players in the men8217;s section and best seven in the women8217;s group. Men: 1 Jadgev Mann, 2 Tejinder Harry, 3 Devinderjit Singh, 4 KS patwal, 5 Ramanpreet Pahwa, 6 Ajay Gupta, 7 Charukh Goyal, 8 Salil Gahir.
Women: 1 Saroj Chandel, 2 Anjali Negi, 3 Ami Wig, 4 Palki Dhanjal, 5 Neha Sharma, 6 Kamlesh Devi, 7 Harneet Kaur.
Results: Men: Final: Jagdev Mann bt Tejinder Harry 25-7, 25-0. Semifinal: Tejinder harry bt Devinderjit Singh 25-22, 25-13; Jagdev Mann bt KS Patwal 0-25, 25-4, 25-9. Women: Final: Saroj Chandel bt Anjali Negi 16-25, 25-4, 25-12. Semifinal: Saroj Chandel bt Palki Dhanjal 10-25, 25-8, 25-8; Anjali Negi bt Ami Wig 25-20, 25-0.
