
CHANDIGARH, Dec 16: Field employees of Life Insurance Corporation and all the four General Insurance companies struck work today in response to a call for a one-day lightning strike to protest against the tabling of the Insurance Regulatory Authority Bill in Parliament.
GIC employees assembled in front of the regional office of the India Assurance Company Limited in Sector 17 and marched to the LIC divisional office where they were joined by LIC employees. Thereafter, the procession wended its way through the Sector 17 Piazza.
Rakesh Chopra of the General Insurance Employees8217; Association, Northern Zone, Baldev Singh of the All India Insurance Employees8217; Association, Sushil Sharma of the GIC Employees8217; Union and Jaswant Singh of the Development Officers8217; Association condemned the proposed privatisation of the insurance sector and termed it a quot;sell-out of national interestquot;. They said the unions would fight the move to privatise the insurance sector.
