Mindscape8217; is images of nature. From the mind8217;s eye they take a concrete shape on canvas, says Sandeep Bomble
quot;I picked up the brush after I joined advertising. Advertising is my bread and butter and painting my passion.quot; The passion was dormant till he lay his eyes on quot;a lost cloud in the middle of a hill cleft, surrounded by greenery and fogquot;.
quot;I knew I would paint one day, but I never found my muse till that day.quot; Sandeep studied Fine Arts and Commercial Arts at the J J School of Art before he joined Oamp;M. While he was on his way to getting totally absorbed in campaigns, he realised he was drifting from his passion. So when he was posted to Chennai, he filled up his room with canvasses and brushes, only to realise that he just couldn8217;t paint. quot;I was on the verge ofdepression.quot; Till he happened to look out into the lost cloud one quot;fine and misty dayquot; while travelling in a bus in Kodaikanal.
quot; Not at all. I can8217;t decide to paint. Something has to stir me from within and nature does that often.quot; And the quot;simple titlesquot; of his paintings, he hopes, will help people understand the feelings behind each of them. quot;Of course, each work is open to interpretation.quot; Nature became his muse ever since that bus drive.
Well, he doesn8217;t necessarily paint hills and rivers. quot;Nature is my inspiration. My canvasses speak of what a landscape does to me.quot; And in big strokes and vibrant colours. quot; That way, something like my idol Vincent Van Gogh, I8217;m a very stubborn artist. Big strokes and angular shapes run through all my works. Bright colours because I believe nature makes everything and everyone happy. I8217;m the happiest with nature in my mind and thebrush in my hand.quot; One of the reasons why Sandeep normally paints by daylight.
That is one area where he loves to experiment. quot;I8217;ve come a long way since my first exhibition Mindscapes I8217; in 1997. Now I8217;m comfortable with any material as long as I8217;m inspired to create something.quot; In Mindscapes IV8217;, he has used dry pastel, oil crayons, acrylic and water colour.
quot; Both work in images. I think I8217;m a much more mature visualiser because of my experience as an art director.quot; In fact, Sandeep has bagged a few laurels for his advertising work as well.
quot;I would love to. Perhaps in the near future even.quot; Sandeep is already working on his next project on women. But again, he won8217;t paint women, but shapes that speak of quot;feelings that women in different roles evokequot; in him.
