An inquiry was ordered against Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Madhur Verma on Saturday for allegedly beating a trader, Arvind Pandey, in his office. Sources said the ASP has gone on leave after the inquiry was marked.

Deputy Inspector General Mahabir Singh said the Superintendent of Police Security would probe the incident and submit a report at the earliest.

The trader, Arvind Pandey, owner of Pandey Book Shop in Anand Theatre Complex in Sector 17, had approached the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI against the ASP.

The CBI, today, sent a copy of the complaint, attached with the medical report of the trader, to senior police officials. According to the report, he sustained bruises and scars at six places on his body.

The CBI officials also made it clear that the matter does not fall under their jurisdiction and, therefore, they cannot initiate any action in the case.

Pandey had alleged that the officer along with three of his security guards had beaten him mercilessly for about an hour when he had gone to his office. He added that he had gone to enquire the status of an application moved by him when he was allegedly beaten up by a few men on November 3.

ASP Madhur Verma, meanwhile, refuted the allegations and claimed that Arvind was trying to pressurise the police to get a shop of his vacated from tenants.
