In a major crackdown on arms smuggling, the CIA staff of the Mohali police arrested three persons and recovered three illegal firearms along with live cartridges from their possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) (Mohali) Harmandeep Singh Hans said the operation was carried out under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Saurav Jindal, SP (Operations) Talwinder Singh, and DSP (Investigation) Rajan Parminder Singh. Acting on specific intelligence, the CIA team successfully intercepted the suspects and seized the illegal arms.
The SSP said that on January 12, a CIA police party was present near village Khanpur, Kharar, when it received information that three youths, armed with illegal weapons, were roaming in a Tata Safari near Amaira Greens on the Kharar–Kurali road, allegedly with the intention of committing a crime. Acting on the tip-off, the police laid a trap and apprehended all three accused near Amaira Greens Society, Kharar.

According to the SSP, the arrested accused include Sachin Singh, a resident of village Mohkam Rai in Fazilka district, presently residing at Sunny Urban Homes, Kharar. Aged about 22 years, he has one previous case of a quarrel registered against him at Maloa police station in Chandigarh. The second accused, Sahijpreet Singh, a resident of village Safari Wind in Amritsar district and presently living at Sunny Urban Homes, Kharar, is about 20 years old with no previous criminal record. The third accused, Amanpreet Singh alias Aasu, a resident of Raipur Kalan in Mohali, is also about 20 years old and has no prior criminal history.
From their possession, the police recovered one .32 bore pistol with two live cartridges, one .315 bore pistol with two live cartridges, one .12 bore pistol with two live cartridges, besides the Tata Safari vehicle used by the accused.
During the interrogation, police found that all three had studied together at Rayat and Bahra College, which is how they knew each other. “Due to mutual rivalry, they procured these illegal weapons from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh in August 2025,” Hans said.
The accused are currently on police remand, and further questioning is expected to lead to additional recoveries and disclosures, the SSP said.
