MUMBAI, May 6: Credit Agricole Indo-Suez Bank, led by Sandeep Joshi, won the Times Shield G Division cricket title when they beat Larsen amp; Toubro by 83 runs just half an hour after tea on the third day of the four-day final at the Sachivalaya Gymkhana ground, Oval Maidan, today.

For the bankmen, who started playing in the Times Shield tournament from last year, this was their maiden title triumph.

Larsen amp; Toubro, chasing a target of 300 runs for a win, resumed at two for no loss and had an early setback when Shyam Koli was out in the first over of the day when the total was just eight. However, the second-wicket pair of Nilesh Dere and Bhagwan Sanap batted resourcefully and carried the total to 116 for one at lunch.

After the break, Dere, who was looking good, became the first victim of Salauddin Kadri. The pair added an invaluable 121 runs for the second wicket in 36 overs. Dere8217;s contribution was 44 with six hits to the ropes. At the same score, off-spinner Mazhar Sagri got the wicket of one dropBhagwan Sanap for a well-made 74 which had seven fours.

Thereafter, Larsen amp; Toubro lost the way and were 202 for eight at the tea break. Between lunch and tea, they added 86 runs and lost seven wickets. Kadri and Sagri took two wickets each, while left-arm Hemant Futaiwala captured three wickets.

After tea, Kadri took the remaining two wickets to bowl out their rivals for 216. Vishwanath Randive was the other main scorer with 28. Kadri was the pick of the bowlers with four for 22 in 11 overs, while Futaiwala took three for 48 and Sagri captured two for 78 in 24 overs.

Brief scores: Indo-Suez Bank 311 and 150 bt Larsen amp; Toubro 162 and 216 Nilesh Dere 44, Bhagwan Sanap 74; Salauddin Kadri 4-22, Hemant Futaiwala 3-48, Mazhar Sagri 2-78 by 83 runs.

Krushi take lead

Krushi Udyog, after taking a first innings lead of 56 runs over Tata Special Steel, were 29 for two in their second innings on the second day of the four-day final of the Times Shield C Division cricket tournament at the MIGground, Bandra, today.

Krushi Udyog, resuming at 210 for five, were all out for 239. The overnight pair of Nandu Donwalkar and Raju Ambhire added 115 runs for the six wicket. Donwalkar made 58, while Ambhire scored 57.

Medium pacer Anup Sabnis, who had taken three wickets on Tuesday, added two more to his tally to finish with 5 for 30 in 20 overs. Andrew Almeida took three for 32 in 14 overs.

Tata Special Steel had a bad start, losing their first two wickets for just one run. They could not recover from this situation and lost their wickets at regular intervals to be all out for 183, which included 30 penalty runs. Randhir Tandel 41 and Rajesh Save 30 were the main run-getters. Medium pacer Ronnie Devadiga and off-spinner Ganesh Rao took three wickets each, while Tushar Patil captured two wickets.
