
Bangkok, May 13: The junior Indian golfers are placed second in the Janya Cup team event for boys of A and B after first round of play in the 20th Asia Pacific Junior Golf championship at the Sprigfield Royal Country Club, Bangkok.
Thailand is leading the field at 234 followed by India at 236, Taiwan at 238 and Philippines at fourth place at 241.
The championship saw a record 146 juniors tee off in conditions that were sweltering humid and hot, as a result the organising committee allowed all the players to play with caddies.
In the boys B8217; group, Ashok Kumar, sub-junior national champion, after completing his first round is placed joint second at 80. Ashok was nine over after 16 holes last night but pulled back a shot today with a birdie on the 17th to secure the second spot.
In the boys A8217; group Sandeep Syal is joint sixth in a field of 45 while Shiv Kapur, junior national champion is joint 12th.
In the girls A8217; division competition national and junior champion Parnita Garewal is second at 77behind Jaruwan Gulyanamitta of Thailand at 69. Ayesha Kapur of india is sixth at 84. In the Doug Sanders, Syal at 77 was joint fourth and Shiv Kapur joint 8th at 79.
