Koyilandy, April 23: Titanium8217;s hopes of qualifying for the main draw of the Federation Cup Volleyball tournament suffered a set back when they went down in straight sets to Indian Army in a round robin league match here yesterday.

The army side, led by international Premjith, scored a 15-13, 15-6, 15-9 win over the Kerala side. Later the West Bengal trounced Madhya Pradesh 15-1, 15-1, 15-0 in a women8217;s fixture.

The first set which saw the armymen sweating it out for a 15-13 win, witnessed an exciting battle. Binu Jose, the former international, and Tomy Mathew came out with a string of deft placements that fetched valuable points and helped them close in on their rivals at 13-14. But a couple of scorching services by BP Aman turned the set in Army8217;s favour quite dramatically.

The second and third sets saw Indian Army dominating the proceedings. With BP Aman regaining his touch and striking a good combination with Premjith, the armymen did not face much hurdles on their path to victory.

Titanium whohad lost their opening match to Southern Railway, beat BSF to revive their hopes in a late night fixture yesterday. The 73-minute match saw Titanium rallying at 4-15, 15-10, 15-11, 15-1.

But the biggest upset of the day was the defeat that the fancied Indian juniors suffered at the hands of Indian Army. The armymen won 15-5, 15-4, 15-6.

KERALA YOUTH WIN: Kerala drubbed Tamil Nadu 15-8, 15-2, 15-1 in a women8217;s youth league match at Kanhangad today.

In the men8217;s matches held last night, Cochin Port Trust routed the Tamil Nadu youth side 15-3, 15-5, 15-8, while Indian Overseas Bank humbled United Club Punjab 15-4, 15-11, 15-4.
