8220;The return of Ravi Kant Reddy, the main setter, and central blocker Ashish Arora will certainly help us improve on the last year8217;s runner-up finish,8221; said Amir, who hails from Kurukshetra. Ravi Kant Reddy is a professional and plays in Lebanon.
After wins in the SAF Games in Nepal and Asian Championship in Iran this year, Amir will be captaining the National team in the third international meet. The Haryana spiker has rich experience and has so far played more than 90 international matches in his brilliant career.
He admited the team would feel the absence of the injured Surjit Singh, Roy Joseph and Kumaran. 8220;Our players are in high spirit and are raring to go after attending the National camp at Patiala from November 22 under the supervision of chief coach Jagir Singh and assistant coach Chander Singh. The players are fit and agile,8221; Amir said.
Eight teams are participating in the event this time. India have been clubbed with UAE Senior, UAE Junior and newcomers Australia in pool A while Cuba, defending champs Ukraine, Tunisia and Pakistan are in Group B.
Schedule: Dec 27: vs UAE Seniors; Dec 30: vs Australia; Dec 31: UAE Juniors.
Top two teams qualify for the semi-finals. The final is on January 3.
