The covers over the pitch at Kingsmead were removed twice, only to be replaced again. The powerful floodlights highlighted the steady drizzle which was accompanied by a strong breeze. And together they delayed the start of India8217;s campaign opener in the Twenty20 World Cup against Scotland.

After an initial one hour delay in the toss itself, Scotland skipper Ryan Watson won the toss at 6.30 pm local time and his bowlers were kept waiting to bowl the first ball for long as another spell of rain delayed things further.

As per the rules, a minimum of five overs per side will have to be bowled for a result and 9 pm local time is the cut-off time for play to start beyond which the match has to be called off. And that8217;s exactly what happened as rain didn8217;t relent till 8.30pm, preventing the groundsmen to render the pitch fit for play on time.

While the crowd relished a rain dance to bhangra numbers 8212; a special compliment to the Indian presence in the stands 8212; a rained out match would effectively mean that the India-Pakistan tie becomes all the more important.
