Jeev rallies to 23rd place

NEW DELHI: Jeev Milkha Singh carded a six-under 66 in the final round of the 1.4 million pound Deutsche Bank SAP Open, part of the European PGA Tour. Jeev finished joint 23rd with an aggregate of two-under 286, a marked improvement from the 58th position he held after three rounds. The title was won by World No. 3 Tiger Woods of the US, with 15-under 273.

Jeev’s ranking jumped 10 places to a career-high 148. In the European Tour’s Order of Merit, Jeev moved up from 23 to 18, with earnings of 143,653 Euros.

NEW DELHI: India won three bronze medals at the World Women’s Powerlifting championships which concluded in Denmark on May 23. Sarla Shetty, Raj Rajeshwari and Surya Prabha finished third in their respective categories.

Raj Rajeshwari is the current World junior and Asian senior champion.

Juniors win

CHENNAI: The Indian junior men’s volleyball team beat Japan by three sets to one in their opening league match in the Asianqualification volleyball tournament for the World Championship at Ubon Rathathani (Thailand), according to information received here. India won 23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 27-25 in a match lasting 110 minutes. India next play Korea tomorrow.
