Sunita Godara wins Egyptian Marathon

MUMBAI: India’s Sunita Godara won the 42.2 km-long Egyptian Marathon on Friday, according to information received here. Godara’s successful defence of the title she had won last year fetched her $2,000 and also an air ticket to Cairo next year with a week’s five star hospitality. She and men’s winner Mohammed El moursey beat back the challenge of 1,400 runners from 28 countries.

NEW DELHI: The Indian women’s Hockey Federation (IWHF) named 26 probables for the four-nation hockey tournament to be held in Australia from April 28 to May 9.

The probables will undergo a one-and-half month coaching camp in NIS, Patiala before the final team is selected, IWHF release said.

Asian Games gold medallist South Korea, African champions South Africa, besides Australia are theother teams in the competition.

Chairman and managing director of Indian Airlines Anil Baijal handed over promotion letters to each of them. Goalkeepers Ballal, Subbaiah and forward Mukesh Kumar were promoted as managers, mid-fielder Riaz was promoted as deputy manager and Tirkey as assistant manager.

Joint winners

NEW DELHI:Sri Lanka and West Indies were declared joint winners of All-Out World Masters cricket championship. Both reached the finals beating India in the preliminary matches.

Due to technical fault in microwave transmission of the telecast today, the organisers decided to declare both teams as winners after consulting with both captains.

CALCUTTA Jagmohan Dalmiya expressed shock at the lackadaisical attitude of Doordarshan in the coverage of the Asian Test Championship match between India and Pakistan beginning here from February 16.

“I feel sorry for millions of Indian sportslovers who will be deprived of witnessing an event which is taking place for the first time in the 200-year history ofcricket because of Doordarshan’s attitude,” Dalmiya told reporters.– ENS & Agencies
