BANGALORE: India and Sri Lanka stormed into the finals of the inaugural SAARC Golf Championship being played at the Karnataka Golf Association Course here on Saturday. India topped the table with a team total of 287, while Sri Lankans logged 289.
However, RAA Rohana of sri lanka stole the limelight emerging as the individual champion with a score of four under 140 from the two preliminary rounds. Rohana cut a card of two under 70 on both the days edging out Amish Jaitha of India.

NOIDA: Vijay Kumar opened up a huge lead of six strokes on the top of the leaderboard at the end of the third round of the Rs 5 lakh ONGC-NGC Open Championship here on Saturday. A card of one over 73, excellent under extremely testing conditions, took vijay8217;s three round aggregate to three over 219. On a day when not a single player managed a break par, his was the best card.

MUMBAI: The national cricket selectors are to meet at Calcutta on January15 to choose 30 probables for the May 14-June 20 World Cup. The list would be pruned further to 20 before February 28. The final list of 15 players and five stand-byes would be sent to the organisers before the March 31 deadline, according to sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

IMPHAL: The Manipur Olympic Association MOA and the State government have sunk their differences and agreed to hold the fifth National Games in February next. Official sources said the understanding between the two sides was reached following an hour-long meeting between representatives of both the parties yesterday.

NEW DELHI: Delhi girl Shruti Dhawan claimed a golden double in the AITA Delhi Women8217;s Open Tennis Tournament here on Saturday. In the singles final she beat second seed Karishma Patel Guj 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 and later teamed up with Karishma to defeat Shalini Thakur and Yamini Sekhri 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles finals.

CALCUTTA:Defending champions Maharashtra kept on course to retain their crown when they prevailed over Services B8217; 4-1 on the fourth day of the Inter-State squash championship at the Calcutta Racket Club here on Saturday.Barring Awish Jaiswal who lost to S Sheketkar, four other Maharashtra players Manish Chotrani, Parth Doshi, Neeraj Shirgaonkar and Saket Wali had no difficulty in brushing aside the challenge of their opponents.

MUMBAI: India will send a four-member boys team for the Asian Junior Championship to be held at Kuala Lumpur from January 24 to 31. The team: Parth Doshi, Mihir Kapoor, Abhijit Kukreja and Anshul Manchanda.
