Narain unhurt after crash

CHENNAI: India8217;s Formula race driver, Narain Karthikeyan, walked away unhurt from a crash during a test session at Silverstone, England, on Wednesday, according to information reaching here on Thursday.

Narain, driving for Carlin Motorsport team, was hit when his former team-mate Ben Collins spun off the track. Collins rammed into Narain8217;s car which slid into the protective wall. Narain8217;s car suffered considerable damage at the rear. However, the car was being restored for Sunday8217;s race, the concluding round of the British Formula-3 Championship.

Collins later apologised to Narain.

NEW DELHI: India is clubbed with China and Pakistan in a tough Pool B of the IX Asian Junior Volleyball Championship to be held at Tehran from October 8-15.

A 12-member Indian team will represent the country in this 12 nation championship. Team: Harun Khan, Abhijeet Bhattacharjee, Avinash Yadav, Manoj Kumar, Yawar Ali, Subba Rao, M Kumaran, Tom Joseph, RaviKumar, Lakshminarayan, Shankar Ganesh and Kapil Dev. Chief coach: GE Sridharan. Assistant coach: Chander Singh. Referee: SK Khurana.

Natls put off

AHMEDABAD: The 15th Youth National basketball championship to be held at Surat from Octo 11 to 16 has been postponed because of unavoidable circumstances. The secretary of the Gujarat State Basketball Association GSBA, Chandrashekhar Pagedar informed in a press release that the event will be held at a date to be announcd after the GSBA consults with the Basketball Federation of India BFI.
