Reddy to lead spikers’ team
CHENNAI: Ravikanth Reddy (Railways) will lead a 12-member Indian senior team to the first Asian Central Zone Top Four volleyball tournament, to be held at Teheran from August 11 to 13.
P C Pandian (SAI) would be the chief coach of the team, while Jagir Singh (Punjab) would assist him, a press release from vice-president of Volleyball Federation of India, K Murugan, said here today.
Team: Ravikanth Reddy, Thulasi Reddy, Joby Joseph (both Tamil Nadu), Surjit Singh, Ratan Lal, Roy Joseph and Amir Singh (all Punjab), Prenjith (SSCB), Venkateshwar Rao, M S Rajesh (Railways), Ashish Arora (MP) and Raj Vinod (Ker).

Volleyball meet
CHENNAI: Russia and Korea will clash in the inaugural match of the World Grand Prix (women) volleyball championship at the Multi Purpose Indoor Stadium here on September 4.
K Murugan, competition director and executive vice-president of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), told a pressconference here this morning that two matches would be held a day for three days. Olympic champions Cuba would meet Italy in the second match, he said.

JAMSHEDPUR: A promising young archer Raghunath Kisku died of cancer at the Tata Main hospital here today.
Kisku’s outstanding performance in the junior and sub-junior national meets helped Bihar retain the top position in archery. He was the national champion in the sub-junior category of the National archery championship held in Ajmer in 1997.
