WASHINGTON, DECEMBER 15: India is developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range of more than 5,000 km, Defense Week reports.
Named `Surya’, the missile will be able to carry nuclear warheads up to 2,000 km, it said yesterday.
"Some $50 million is being spent to develop the missile, which is expected to be fielded by mid-2001," the weekly said.
The development of a wide range of modern missiles capable of delivering nuclear warheads is set forth in a May 1999 plan, it said.
