India’s chances of reaching the tri-nation series final were severely dented after heavy rains forced their second limited overs match against australia to be abandoned here today.

The teams earned three points each following the downpour which forced the umpires to call of the match with two balls remaining in the Australian innings.

After a four-and-half hour delayed start, Australia won the toss and elected to bat in the 32 overs-a-side match. They were 175-7 in 31.4 overs when the covers came on.

The no-result left India with three points from two matches.

India have a slim chance of entering the final, which depends on Pakistan beating the world champions and collecting full six points.

It was a big blow for the Indians who bounced back from their opening match defeat against Pakistan to put up a commanding performance on the field.
