
Following protests by farmers demanding compensation for land acquired by the government in six villages and the BJP Opposition creating a furor in the Assembly, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she will hold a meeting on September 19 to discuss the issue. While BJP MLAs staged a walk out in protest of the police action taken against the farmers on Wednesday and Thursday, Dikshit said the government 8220;will do whatever legally possible to compensate the farmers.8221;
On the second day of the Assembly session the Opposition left the government sweating on the issue of water shortage. The Chief Minister agreed that there is a problem of water shortage in the Capital and the distribution of water is faulty. Sheila Dikshit told the Assembly that it would take at least five to six months to reach a solution.
Delhi government on Thursday said permission has been granted for allotment of flats in eight cooperative housing societies while the process is on for ten others in the national capital. Development Minister Rajkumar Chauhan said this in reply to allegations raised by the BJP leaders that the allotment process has been delayed. The High Court had recently told the registrar of cooperative societies to start the allotment process for 57 societies.
The Delhi government will review its decision on the regularization policy for nearly 20 colonies close to Sainik Farms. Sainik Farms and other two colonies, Anant Ram Diary and Mehandru Enclave have not be included in the issuance of provisional regularisation certificate. Development Minister Rajkumar Chauhan said area District Commissioner has been told to carry out a study to provide further details.
The special committee on Environment in its second report tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday suggested that all encroachments on the Yamuna riverbed should be removed. The committee however stated that the riverbed should be developed as a tourist and religious place.nbsp;
