
Action against sugar factories
Kopargaon: Stern action would be taken against the sugar factories in the State involved in bringing in sugarcane from other states, according to State Sugar Commissioner, Arvind Reddy.
Speaking to reporters at Shrigonda in Ahmednagar district yesterday, Reddy said two cooperative sugar factories were fined Rs 32 lakh and Rs 45 lakh respectively last year in this regard.
There are 125 sugar factories in the State out of which ten factories were closed and nine were being started afresh this year, he said adding that 36 lakh tonnes sugar production was expected this season.
Air Force being modernised
Kopargaon: The Indian Air Force IAF was being modernised to meet changing needs, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal S K Sareen said today.
The IAF was the quot;most efficient air forcequot; and was ready to face any eventuality, he said at Shirdi near here.
Sareen said he would take up social work after his retirement. quot;I am not interested in joining politics,quot;he said.
