Meet to curb violence in campus
Ahmednagar:
Senior police officials here and primary and secondary school and college teachers from the city on Wednesday discussed certain measures to curb violence and misdemeanours on the campus.

Prompted by separate incidents in which a student was stabbed on the campus of a city college and a teacher was abused, the meeting expressed an urgent need to make certain checks mandatory on the campus. The meeting was convened by Deputy Superintendents of Police P D Karale and Sandeep Diwan.

The meeting discussed the circumstances leading to misdemeanours and crimes involving the youngsters while Karale stressed stricter identity card checking on the campus. This would help in pinning the strangers, the DySP said.

Participants also sought presence of a representative of the armed forces on a coordination committee handling the discipline on campus in view of a few incidents on the past in which junior officers had been caught trying to interfere in the working of the colleges. The coordination committee should meet every month, it was decided.

Kalmadi group in a fix
Pune:
Suresh Kalmadi8217;s supporters, who have sought the Congress nomination for Assembly elections, will probably have to cross a few legal hurdles before fighting the electoral battle as Kalmadi8217;s Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi MVA is yet to officially merge with the Congress.

While Kalmadi announced the merger of MVA with Congress on June 2 by organising an impressive rally at Congress Bhavan, the MVA has not yet submitted any letter to the Divisional Commissioner, informing the same, which is required under the provisions of Anti-Defection Law. MVA sources said the letter had not been deliberately submitted since all MVA office bearers 8211; mayor, deputy mayor, standing committee chairman, PMT committee chairman and leader of the house 8211; would lose their positions owing to the legal provisions.
