
ISI agent held in Pune
Pune: A suspected Pakistani agent of the Inter Services Intelligence ISI who had been picked up by the Pune police following a tip off from their counterparts in Kolhapur was remanded in police custody on Thursday.
According to senior police officials, Sayeed Ahmned Mehmood Desai 41, a Pakistan national, had allegedy been overstaying in India after his travel permit had expired. He had managed to escape before the Kolhapur police could nab him on Monday.
Following the information provided by their Kolhapur counterparts, the city police swung into action and picked up Desai from Maharshinagar. Two passports were recovered from Desai and questioning revealed that Desai had been working for the ISI. The police suspect that Desai had been sent to provide key information on military installations in and around Pune. According to reliable police sources the crime branch and military intelligence are working on the case together. The Kolhapur police had arrested Desai8217;s wife Baby Jahida from Bastwad in Shirol taluka.
Corporators denounce Pak
Kolhapur: The Kolhapur corporators today denounced Pakistan for infiltrating the Kashmir Valley. Mayor Kanchan Kawale later torched the Pakistani flag as a mark of protest at the KMC headquarters.
Earlier, corporator Anand Gawandi demanded a ban on cricket matches stating that it was shameful that the youth were engrossed in watching cricket when Indian soldiers have been fighting infiltrators in adverse conditions.
Standing Committee chairman R D Patil later announced that he would donate one month8217;s honorarium and KMC officials their one day8217;s pay to the families of martyrs.
